I served in the military for 10 years; towards the end of my obligation, I really found a passion for wellness and fitness, and I wanted to expand my knowledge. I earned an associate's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in personal training.
I decided personal training was not enough I wanted to make a bigger difference. I wanted to help those who were limited in their actives of daily living due to injury, illness, or disease and suffering from acute or chronic pain. Those suffering with acute and chronic conditions could potentially find relief through exercise; exercise is a powerful "medicine". I pursued my bachelor of science degree, majoring in exercise science with a concentration in wellness and fitness and sports management.
This still was not enough for me, I wanted to make a larger impact, I wanted to learn more, I wanted give my patients the best possible outcome on the road to recovery. I went on to graduate school where I earned her master of science degree, with a dual major in rehabilitation and sport psychology. With all of this education I still was not able to actually physically treat and help patients because my degrees alone did not give me the authorization to conduct hands on treatments combined with exercise.
Going back to school for another five years in order to conduct hands on treatments was a little much for me, I did some research and discovered that becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist would give me the opportunity to be a part of the rehabilitation and recovery process using a more holistic approach; putting my years of education and training to good use, giving my patients the best possible outcomes. Along with my various degrees and license in massage and bodywork therapy I am also certified in neuromuscular therapy and corrective exercise training, and I am Certified Medical Massage Practitioner.
